The Sixth Sense ~ Presale {Photography, Effingham, Illinois}

Well, the day has finally arrived.  We're ready to do a pre-sale of our book!!  Along with the book alone, we're each selling two prints + book for a limited time.  These are 6x9 inch images on 8.5x11 inch Velvet Fine Art Paper, in editions of 12.  Each print is signed and numbered by the artist. We're both very excited about this! My friend Kristianne has put in many hours of work, curating and designing this book.  She has done most of the work and I can't thank her enough.  She's done a stellar job!

A little back story on how all this came about...several years ago, while I was still living in Cayman, I began to stalk a certain California photographers blog.  Each image she would share seemed to be better than the next.  Her photographs have a nostalgic, California surfer feel to them.  You can almost feel the salt water splash onto your toes and hear the roar of the waves or feel the wind on your face when looking at her images.  I was smitten by them and still am.  I can't remember exactly how we began corresponding, I'm sure it went something like, I kept emailing her begging her to be my friend.  :-)  Something like that.  And low and behold...it worked!!  I'm proud and very lucky to now call her a dear, dear friend, which is a little weird if you think about it, because we've STILL never met in person!!!  But we will...eventually.

After awhile we noticed that we shot very similar images of our boys.  They were out in the world enjoying nature, living the quintessential boys life, albeit one in cricks and woods and the other in the Pacific surf. The were living very parallel lives, they just happened to be at opposite ends of the country. That's when the book idea was hatched.  It's been a dream come true collaborating on this book with Kristianne and I hope to do many more collaborations in the future!

Because we both think nature plays such a vital role in the healthy development of children, we've each chosen a great charity to give a portion of the proceeds of the sale of this book.  I've picked The Sierra Club and Kristianne has chosen Oceana

I am a self taught, natural light photographer, with sixteen years of shooting experience under my belt. Back in the day, I learned to shoot with film, developed it and printed my own photos in my darkroom. I've since moved to digital, but film holds a very dear spot in my heart that I just can't seem to shake. I was supposed to be a horticulturalist and landscape architect...at least that's what my degree's tell me. I followed that path for some time, along with a few other paths, but photography won my heart. Plants and beautiful mother nature is, and will always be, a great inspiration to me. If at all possible, I prefer to shoot outdoors and somehow incorporate nature into the scene. I'm originally from the Watson, Illinois area, but the majority of my adult life I spent living in the Cayman Islands and only moved home to Illinois with my husband and son a few short years ago. I grew up on a small working farm, with acres and acres of natural areas at my disposal. It gave me a great appreciation for the world around me. I roamed wherever I pleased, built forts in the woods, picked wildflowers in the pasture and caught craw-daddies in the crick. My son is taking over the jobs of fort building and craw-daddy hunting, but I'll never give up the picking of wildflowers.
